The Tourism Ministry has unveiled 57 destinations nationwide under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme, as per Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy’s announcement in parliament today. Under Swadesh Darshan 2.0, Assam’s Jorhat and Kokrajhar, Arunachal Pradesh’s Nacho and Mechuka, Manipur’s Moirang, Meghalaya’s Shillong and Sohra, Mizoram’s Aizawl and Champhai, Nagaland’s Niuland and Chumukedima, Sikkim’s Gangtok and Gyalshing, and Tripura’s Agartala and Unakoti are the selected destinations. The Ministry introduced the Swadesh Darshan Scheme to foster theme-based tourist circuits, approving 76 projects. Swadesh Darshan 2.0 aims to develop sustainable tourism destinations, emphasizing a destination-centric approach. State/UTs draft State Perspective Plans as per scheme guidelines, and the Ministry selects destinations accordingly. Additionally, the Ministry launched the National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD) Scheme to integrate development in pilgrimage sites. Under PRASHAD, 46 projects have been sanctioned for infrastructure development at identified destinations.
